My solar system was installed just before NM Solar Group went out of business. They were very good at that but apparently, not good on the business side. From what I've read, I was very fortunate.
TL;DR - The company has gone out of business.CONCLUSIONTHIS is the biggest problem with green energy. Companies will spring up, overnight, to take advantage of tax incentives. But then they can't sustain the business and up closing up shop after a few years, leaving the customers holding the bag. REMEMBER that, as state and local governments continue to push for EV only cars and green energy by such-and-such a date. There is a high likelihood that you will end up spending a ton of money to do your part for the environment, but then end up with very expensive tech and no one to service it AND still be on the hook for 20 years of loan payments!BACKSTORYI had this company install my solar system back in 2019. I was promised a 10 year warranty on everything and it was supposed to be sized to where I would never have an electrical bill. However, there were only a couple of months out of the year where that would be the case. They were supposed to pay the bill if I had one; they never did. Then, about a year later, I started having a communications error with one of the pieces of equipment. An electrician came out and said it would need a new module. Then I didn't hear back from anyone for a year. So I called again. The next guy told me the same thing. Okay, so I wait and again, I don't hear from anyone for a year. So then I call AGAIN, earlier this year, and someone comes out and said I will need a new completely new unit. Well, now I find out the company had gone under. My system is still working, but only producing about 50% of the power it is capable of, and I don't think the backup battery is getting charged. Now, I have to try and find another company to service this system, and I'll be paying for it out of pocket.
NM Solar Group was highly recommended from a friend, but my experience has been frustrating.Yvette worked hard answering my many technical and financial questions on the sale, sometimes requiring her to do some research and get back to me. I appreciate her effort. However, my friend that recommended me never received his $500 referral bonus that was promised even after following up with her.The company was good to honor my request to route wiring through my rafters for a cleaner external look even though it took more time. The original project lead left NM Solar Group and I've worked with Albert (Al). There was about a week after the design was approved before they reached out to start the scheduling process for the install, which took several days to schedule. The installation went well (other than getting snowed out and requiring a second installation day a week later). The second electrician reversed number for voltage and current some labels, which I pointed out, but he didn't fix. The numbers suggested that the voltage levels were touch-safe even though they were 240 VAC. After another call, they did correct the label. The installers were careless and caused slight damage to my shingles, but the company paid a third-party roofer to repair it. Al made a mistake on the paperwork to the city which caused a 1--2-day delay (but he did own up to it). The solar system monitoring software was not set up on either installation day, but about a week after PNM connected it to the grid, they set up the software. Al provided the paperwork for the NM solar tax credit but did not include an itemized invoice which caused it to be rejected. I feel he should have known what was required. Getting the itemized invoice took 2.5 weeks! I expect this could have been completed in 2-3 business days. This delay caused stress with tax deadlines looming. Eventually they provided the invoice, and the tax credit was approved. They let me down by never fully explaining the state tax credit process as they promised during the sales phase and which I requested multiple times. The timeline from signing the paperwork to producing power was much longer than expected, largely due to PNM’s delays. Yvette stated 3-4 months and it ended up being 5 months.Looking back, I’m glad to have solar producing very well this spring and expect it will continue for years to come. NM Solar Group has great customer service during the sales phase, decent during the setup phase, and poor on the support phase.
Great experience with NM Solar Group and I definitely recommend their company for your solar panel sales and installation. Yvette Graham was our sales representative and she was amazing! Very knowledgeable and answered all of our technical, maintenance, and financial planning questions. We were very comfortable going forward with this purchase based on our interactions with Yvette. We’ve had the solar panels for just under a year now. Still 100% satisfied and happy that we made this investment through NM Solar Group.
Great job. Be careful understanding tax credits. I misunderstood and learned the hard way what tax credit means. The company also adds “credit” into numbers. Just make sure you know what you’re getting into. Otherwise great!
