Reviews consistently mention clear communication, helpful guidance through system options, and punctual, tidy installation teams. Many customers report smooth permitting and well-organized projects from start to finish. A small number of reviewers advise comparing quotes and watching contract changes, particularly for battery-related scopes. Overall ratings indicate strong satisfaction with workmanship and professionalism.

I highly recommend you get competitive quotes, at least on solar batteries and watch for change orders if you do business with these folks. This is what happened:

1. I had an original contract.
2. The first contract had to be dropped due to items outside of Cal-Solar's control. (Fair enough).
3. Cal-Solar provided an update battery contract to an installation (solar installation) they sourced, they designed, they permitted, they installed, and they completed.
4. Cal-Solar wanted a change order on a system that had no changes and yet Cal-Solar claims the installed system had unknown items. (Keep in mind they did all the work...ALL of it.)
5. Cal-Solar waited till the last moment to notify of the changes which pushed against a tax-credit deadline. (From my chair seemed to be the goal.)
6. Cal-Solar provide large price increases to perform the work or quit...from 3.5k (to lose half the battery charging ability) or charge another 9k to add another battery. (Tesla charge half for a second battery, btw.)
I'm not saying this will happen to you. I'm just saying what happened to me. As to the contract you sign: From my chair the company uses it for your compliance not theirs. (If you want to force compliance, then what do you do: take time, sue them, force an organization to do electrical work on your home to hit a contract??)

Great experience! I am very satisfied with buying solar from them. The product quality is very good and the service is also excellent. I would definitely recommend buying from California Solar Electric Cooperative to anyone looking to purchase solar.

We did a lot of research and due diligence before deciding on who to go with for our solar install. We got several competing bids before making our decision on who to go with. Cal Solar did the best job not only with the install but advising us about the options available to us. It can be a pretty daunting task to soak it all in before signing on the dotted line but we felt very informed and there was absolutely no pressure to go forward. Keeping our hard earned money in the local community as well as supporting an employee owned instead of sending it elsewhere was also a plus in our decision
Everything happened on schedule for our install even though supply chain issues were causing lots of delays elsewhere. Part of our installation required interfacing with another company that was installing a permanent whole home generator and that happened without a hitch. The only hiccup in our journey was due to PG&E not moving is over to their solar customer side of billing for several months. This was not due to any fault on Cal Solar's behalf, it was all due PG&E's billing department. We eventually got a full refund for over payments that we were billed for.
Our system just passed the one year anniversary date about a month ago and our first annual true-up bill from PG&E showed that we had produced some surplus power and owed nothing.

California Solar did a phenomenal job on our solar project in Nevada City. They were punctual and very professional. The work was done quickly and completed with a high level of craftsmanship. Everyone from their sales person to their install crew was courteous and kind. We would HIGHLY recommend them for your solar installation!!!

Excellent experience from first inquiry to installation. There are many solar providers to chose from and Cal Solar was a superior choice for our solar needs. The sales, consulting, design, permitting, installation and post-installation support have been far more than I hoped for. This team is comprised of experts who efficiently managed every aspect of our project with professionalism and expertise. If you are considering going solar, this is THE ONE COMPANY for you to give serious consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions

They design and install grid-tied solar for homes and small businesses, including rooftop and ground-mount systems. They can also advise on battery readiness, inverter selection, and monitoring options.

It typically starts with a site assessment and a documented proposal outlining equipment and scope. After approval, they manage design, permitting, installation, and utility interconnection with a final system walkthrough.

Many systems can be designed to be battery-ready so storage can be added later. The team can review your current or planned equipment to explain compatibility and any required upgrades.

Once permits are approved and materials are on hand, on-site work is usually completed in a few days for standard homes. Timelines vary with roof conditions, service upgrades, and utility scheduling.

They set up system monitoring and can review performance data with you. Maintenance needs are generally low, but they can discuss inspection or service options if issues arise.
