First and foremost, my wife and I want to thank the entire A&R team for making the entire process reassuring. Odd description, but very important.A valuable investment takes time, as it did our investment in solar panels, storage cells, grid integration, and electric vehicle (EV) charging station. Our system needed to prevent impacts of grid outages to our home office, peace of mind during a major outage, especially the Cascadia Earthquake, and charge an EV. We didn't have an EV, but knew we would eventually. Our 1960s home had been updated, but addition of an our system required innovative design to install, integrate and use the system. Our process started in early 2023, was installed in early 2024 and we added a plug-in EV in early 2025. We've avoided all impacts of grid outages, many we didn't even know had occurred, except for neighbors. By practicing being off grid, we have a good understanding of how to be comfortable for 3-7 days using our system. Charging the EV every day, using air-conditioning daily and working from the home office 50 hours/week we pay only the basic charge May-September. We are able to use PGE's Off-peak rate plan to recharge the storage batteries during the lowest rate period. Also, we found out recently, in our neighborhood our system increased the value of our home by more than the investment. One side note. We also so enjoy reducing our impact on climate change and consuming less petroleum and natural gas.
We had a 16.5 kW solar array and 2 Powerwalls installed by A&R in April 2025. Great experience! The sales process and person (Isabelle) was great - knowledgeable, responsive, and no pressure. The design was good and adjusted per my request. The install planning was perfect and they showed up when promised and did the work. The on-site people were really good - friendly, knowledgeable, on time, focused, worked full days until done. Great clean up. The work is excellent - everything looks great. Coordination with the inspector, PGE, and ETO for incentives was perfect. We had permission to operate the day after installation was complete. The billing and financial part was seamless. Really couldn't have been better. The system has been operating flawlessly for 3 months. Easy peazy. My only constructive input is that A&R doesn't seem to fully grasp the value of PGE's Time-of-Day rate plan which significantly improves the ROI of solar and/or battery. All A&R's financials assume that your bill is reduced by the same amount your power consumption is reduced - that you are on a fixed rate per kWH. Our solar panels offset 60% of our annual power consumption, and on a straight rate plan they would reduce our power bill by 60%. However, because of ToD rate plan the kWH charge on our bill is reduced by 74%. EVERYONE WITH SOLAR ON PGE SHOULD BE ON TIME-OF-DAY RATE PLAN!With batteries our bill is further reduced to 85% offset! A MUCH better ROI than A&R pitched! Plus, on PGE's Smart Battery Pilot program I get about $30 as a bill credit each time PGE "borrows" our batteries for a few hours. This has happened 3 times in 3 months, further reducing our power bill! Again, A&R's sales pitch didn't include that.
I researched Solar power for several years, watched hundreds of hours of youtube videos on Solar and got bids during the process several times. After our utility had increased rates by a total of 43% over a three year period and announced plans to seek approval for an additional increase this year too we finally pulled the trigger. We obtained 4 bids by using Energy Sage and contacted A&R directly for a quote. With no knowledge of our other quotes A&R installed a 24.78kw system and did it for thousands less than the next lowest bid. In addition they are local to us which is a plus. When installation time came the crew was efficient, tidy and meticulous. They left the jobsite clean every day and answered any and all questions I had.It is winter and even so we have produced amounts greater than our average daily usage multiple times. Can't wait to see what it puts out during peak solar months. Watching our meter spin backwards even with our heaviest loads all operating is very satisfying.I enthusiastically endorse A&R Solar.
In researching whether we wanted to invest in solar for our property we received 4 proposals. Of those, the proposal by A&R, while not the cheapest, offered the best quality of product and by far the best sales staff. They even presented the proposal in person and were NOT PUSHY at all. After making the decision to work with them, the installation process was superb. The installers were not only knowledgeable and efficient, but they actually cared. Being a sometimes DIY guy, I enjoyed watching the process and asking questions. They were so nice to explain everything to me. The system as been performing very well. We did have one warranty issue on an inverter, but A&R took care of it without hesitation. And when they came to install it...surprise, it was the same electrician that did the original install (Brendon). He is just a great guy and it's nice to see a company with employee retention. In fact, after several years of ownership, and after referring others to A&R and they still have the original sales person (Phoebe) that I worked with!I highly recommend A&R if you want a great quality solar system and you want excellent service.
After months of looking and shopping around for different solar companies we chose A&R.The price, warranties, clarity in the sales process, quality of work and product were all better than other companies, and so far our research has paid off.The experience of dealing with A&R has been great so far, with strong early communication and great attention to detail when installing our system. My system just got turned on today so I'm sure things will arise as time goes on but we are happy with A&R and would highly recommend them if you want to go solar.
