They installed our system about 4yrs ago. Install wasn't bad but we didn't get the main team from shockoe, we got a sub contactor. Had our positive and negatives throughout the install.Ryan came out and fixed somethings and also Bernie ended up throwing in some extra panels to complete the look of my system at no extra cost. Which was great. At the end this would of received a 4 star.Fast forward a year. Had a inverter go bad. Now you would think they would be monitoring your system like that said they would and catch my system offline. Took me over a week to realize it. They dragged their feet and I ended up calling in my own RMA. Ryan came out and installed the new inverter and everything was great again. This year the inverter went bad again.. I made phones calls, left voicemails. Emailed the owner and even reached out on Facebook... No reply, not even a attempt to reach back out to me. Now in the contract it states 2 inverter RMA in 5yr span which I have not reached yet so this was a breach of contract.I had to reach out to get my RMA again plus get a new installer to install it. Which ended up being more money out of my pocket. Now after a month of being offline I'm producing solar again no thanks to shockoe solar.I guess once your not lining their pockets anymore or your not a commercial property they pretty much leave you high and dry. They talk a big game about other solar companies but in the end they are just the same.
The Shockoe Solar team installed our inital 10.8 kwh Sol-Ark 15k system in November 2023. This included 300 ft of trenching to the outbuilding where the panels are located. In May they returned to add more panels. Later this year, I'll use them again to install the 30 kwh ESS battery bank.I'm phasing the system installation based on my cash flow. The Sol-Ark recommendation was a perfect match for this phased approach. Just be sure your long-term plans are communicated to them. Very few solar inverter manufacturer's products are flexible enough to permit expansion or chosing to operate first grid-tied only, later with battery backup, later still, adding a generator input all in the single original inverter enclosure.Shockoe Solar was able to ensure and recommend the initial equipment selected was compatible with all four phases of the installation over multiple years. Sol-Ark was the perfect choice having fewer components and a smaller footprint than the foreign competition (only SMA).The remainder of the manufactures were eliminated by proprietary tech and design limitations intended to milk more revenue from consumers.Bernie and Ryan ensured there were no surprises. The experience to handle any job, residential or commercial. Small enough to provide individual tailored solutions to meet the client's requirements. Any requirements. When its time for the new 30ft climate controlled off-grid mobile office/RV, these are the guys I'm calling again.Thank you Shockie Solar for listening and doing and outstanding job!
In late March 2022 I contracted Shockoe Solar for a 22-panel residential unit. The original salesperson had tremendous knowledge in the field, fully understood our goals, made a recommendation based on our needs, and had all the planning documents, calculations and contracts done within a week. It was explained that Shockoe focuses on business/commercial work, but will do residential jobs whenever the team was available, but everything was done in-house and we would have a local resource should we ever need it.The GOOD: the solar panels used on our job are very good. We opted to use Enphase micro inverters, and so far, all is well. Panel installation was completed in one day. The whole installation and set-up process took 2 days. The BAD: Our installation was postponed three times with no explanations for the delays. On the third installation date, no one showed up, didn’t receive a call, text or e-mail. Two days later I contacted the salesperson to find out she was no longer with the company, but she would contact the owner to find out what happened. A fourth date was given, and the installation was completed by what seemed a third party.Throughout this process I had several interactions with the office personnel. Should you chose to work with this company, SAVE yourself the trouble and frustration, work directly with the owner.
They did a great job installing 26 solar panels on our new house. System works great and they used high quality made in the USA panels. Great group of guys and easy to communicate with. Only issue was it took a while for them to come back and install our on-line monitoring system. However, it's completed now and all system are working great. Thanks Bernie and Ryan!
Shockoe Solar did a great job back in 2009 installing my high quality rooftop residential solar array for electricity generation. Having a ballast system meant there was no roof penetration. They did a great job of coordinating with the local utility, so the still is tied to the electric grid. Excess solar electricity production gets put back into the grid, and that's wonderful. The rooftop solar array has been very reliable for years now and has dramatically reduced my electric bill. I appreciate the high level of customer service this company offers and highly recommend getting a quote with this company if considering installing a solar array at your home.
