In an effort to get solar installed before the expiration of the Solar Tax Credit at the Federal Level, I turned to 3rd ROC Solar after engaging Green Spark. The sales agent was referred to me by my neighbor who was also evaluating solar. CJ, the sales agent, was professional and honest. He was able to confirm that things could be completed in time for the tax credit.

After we signed and put down our deposit we had to wait a bit for the job to be scheduled and completed. We kept in communication with our PM Cait who has been our main point of contact throughout the process.

The install was handled by a very professional crew. The lead installer Jamie did a great job explaining the install process and ensuring the install was done as smoothly as possible. Everything about the install and his handling of it went extremely well.

We're very happy with our system from 3rd ROC Solar and I highly recommend them.

I’m warning anyone considering 3rd Roc: stay away. They damaged our ceiling during the installation, admitted they caused it, and then refused to pay for repairs unless we signed a waiver protecting them from future problems. Who does that?
And the solar system they designed doesn’t even cover our electric bill like they promised. We trusted their “experts,” and they completely failed us. Terrible business practices and zero accountability. I would never recommend them.

The installation went well, but they couldn't assist me to follow up with Nyseg and county which was necessary to obtain credit for this investment. I ended up not receiving solar credits for 4 months and they didn't instruct me in the different actions I needed to take to assure credit. The one person at Solar Roc did attempt to connect with nyseg, but were unable to help. It felt as if they did their job but were unable to follow up to make sure it all worked, so that I received the benefit. She sent me the final installation letter that she says nyseg received and washed her hands if it! The salesman (who I now know does not work for solar roc) and nyseg made money on the deal, and no one seem to be able to help me and I lost money. Before you sign up for this investment, make sure you know whose in charge and what you have to do to make sure it all works out to benefit you. It is three different entities that don't work together for the client.

Update 4/22/25

I've switched the maintainers of my system after still being continually ghosted by 3rd ROC Solar. After setting up 3 or 4 appointments with them, they failed to follow up and show up to fix my issues. I will not be using 3rd ROC or recommending them again. They only seem to be interested in the initial install when they make their money. I am now looking at paying someone hundreds of dollars to fix a simple wiring issue and the site map so I can get my app fully functioning, something that should have been corrected months ago. Unacceptable. Will also be reporting these guys to the NYS Attorney General so that others do not go through this same experience.

There are better Solar installers out there folks.

I originally had a great experience with Josh and his team, and I still appreciate their honesty and reasonable approach. However, after five months of trying to resolve an issue, I feel the need to update my review.

While my system is producing electricity as expected, the mobile app and monitoring were never fully set up due to an installation issue with the wiring. I have reached out multiple times via email and phone, and while I was able to schedule appointments, no one actually showed up to address the problem.

Additionally, there was a lack of transparency during the sales process. My neighbors and I were not informed about the Customer Benefit Contribution fee in NYS. We were told our National Grid bill would be the service charge connection fee of $17, but in reality, the minimum bill includes an additional fee based on system size. For me, this means my lowest bill is closer to $30 - this adds up over time when you compare it to the projected savings.

At this point, I may need to hire another solar company to resolve the monitoring issue, as it has become increasingly difficult to get support from 3rd ROC Solar or Enphase. I hope they can improve their follow-through for future customers.

I don't usually leave many business reviews, but 3rd ROC did well by me and thought I'd share. I was very skeptical of solar in general, so I asked way too many questions, but they took the time to thoroughly answer them all.

Once we signed the agreement, 3rd ROC took care of the rest. The process was smooth and a lot easier than I expected.

The installation team was great too; professional, quick, and responsive.

My array has been active for 2 months now, and so far so good with production.
