We met with multiple solar companies and settled on Highlight due to both the great recommendations as well as our experience during the initial process. We asked a LOT of questions, then we asked more, and then some more. Ali remained patient and communicated thoroughly via email or phone, and at all hours.
The installation process was honestly better than the sales process. The combination of Chris (the foreman who found a solution for all our requests) and his team which worked in awful weather to get our project installed on schedule were amazing.
Our inspection, and final handoff were handled by Samir, who answered even more questions, and made sure we were fully set up.

From end to end we had a great experience with Highlight Solar and will recommend them as they were to us.

Pro tips:
If you get a battery you will need to store it until it is installed.
Your solar data might not show up on the app for 24-48 hours after installation…don’t panic, it will show up eventually and you will see the money you are not spending with PG&E.

I took meetings from a handful of solar contractors, big and small. Highlight solar impressed me in their willingness and ability to discuss construction details, integration with the roofing contractor, and permitting.

The system was installed as promised and works according to projections.
Several things went as needed.
1. Highlight installed mounts in coordination with roofing contractor
2. Provided the panels as quoted.
3. Installed the system and worked with the details of mounting equipment seamlessly with the garage interior.
4. Applied for and closed out permitting

I have done 3 solar projects for 2 homes with Highlight Solar. I have worked with Dean, Sam, and Ali. The last job was a large solar installation with battery backup. They did a great job, and I am extremely happy. They continue to be available to answer and help with any questions I have such as getting access to the apps to monitor and control my solar/battery system. I have heard of so many people who use Tesla or other solar providers only to have poor customer service and not know how to connect to their systems. My comment to them is always that they should have used Highlight Solar!

I highly, highly recommend Highlight Solar. I shopped around for months/weeks in trying to hire a reliable company that carries the best brands (i chose the newest and most reliable REC 420w alpha-pure model). and offer the best prices and warranty. I received several offers from the best local businesses that were recommended on yelp as well as Testa (online solar application). In the end, I chose Highlight. I wanted a large, custom-designed system that Tesla was unable to provide me. Tesla is very strict in their design and wont maximize my roof surface area that other local companies could. Tesla also installs lesser-quality panels (hanwha 400w QCells) that most customers wont know until they are unloaded from their trucks. Im willing to bet that their customers think they are getting "tesla" solar panels. Be forewarned if you are not aware of this.
I wanted a large 13+ kw system and two powerwall 3s and tesla could only design me a maximum 8kw system, nothing more. I declined and got my online deposit back. Sunrun quoted me 40% more than Highlight for the same exact design for 13kw. Another reputable San Jose-based solar company (nearby Highlight’s office) price quote was 20% more. A very reputable solar company in Livermore was close in price but still more than Highlight. It was a no brainer, i chose Highlight and it was the best decision ever. I received my initial consultation from Ali. He is very knowledgeable and understands what the customer needs are. I locked in a very, very reasonable contract with him in May. I thought I had to wait a long time for my install given how recent the Powerwall 3 was just released (Tesla said delivery time is
3-4 weeks and perhaps more) and other local installers told me their wait is 8-12 weeks. But nope, the owner Dean worked his magic and was able to get me my two powerwall 3s in 2 days! I got the install crew led by Nick on my roof 2 weeks after signing my contract. Nick and the install crew were very meticulous and easy to work with. My roof install came out clean with no damage to my tiles. Dean is super responsive, knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Whenever i had a question, i was able to send him a text and receive a reply within minutes. I dont think you can get that from Tesla or other companies; much less so from the actual Boss. The technical lead who oversaw my complete install was Samir. I received nothing but 5-star service from him (super hard working guy!). He came out to ensure everything was working correctly, even in the recent 105 degree heatwave. Samir knows the products well and was able to get the system running in no time. Sam took care of all the paperwork, inspections, and logistics. Sam was very dedicated to the project and extremely helpful in every step of the process. I can't thank Highlight Solar enough for giving me the grid freedom that I always wanted and made the process extremely easy and at an affordable price. Well recommended! Call now! I live in the San Lorenzo Valley, near Santa Cruz. I got proposals from two solar companies in Santa Cruz and three in San Jose. All had excellent reviews. I don’t think I would have gone far wrong with any of them. But there were significant differences in price and warranty policies. After many emails to clarify details with many of the five installers, I signed a contract with Highlight Solar. I am glad I did. Their price was attractive; their warranty covered every issue and circumstance I could think of.

Working with them was about as good an experience as I could have hoped for. There were a couple occasions I needed to be clear and specific about what I wanted, but I never got anything but courteous assent to my requests. Some of those required extra trips on their part from San Jose to my house, almost an hour each way. Others required extra hours of work on their part, such as my preference to place the collector boxes at a location that required some extra conduit routing. There were discussions, but no complaints or extra charges, ever.

I particularly enjoyed how multi-cultural the Highlight Solar staff is. The office staff are largely Persian-American, the field guys are mostly Latin-American and the foreman is from Macedonia. All of them are smart, hard-working and eager to satisfy their clients.

Most of the companies recommended LG panels and Enphase micro-inverters, which is what Highlight sold me. I am particularly pleased with the Enphase monitoring software which allows me to see exactly how much power I’m getting from the system, by the day, by the quarter-hour, and panel by panel.

I am happy to recommend these guys without reservation. They earned my endorsement.
