Several reviewers appreciated simple explanations and scheduling support during the process. There are also reports from some customers about unmet expectations around timelines and costs related to panel removal and reinstallation when roofing work is needed.
Nationwide Solar is a perfect example of a company over-promising and under-delivering. We had difficulty getting them to install the panels a couple years ago and only got them installed 3 months after the date promised when I threatened to consider them in breach of contract. We knew we would need to replace our roof in the next couple years and when I mentioned that to the salesman, he said it would be about $1000 for them to remove and reinstall the panels. When the time came to replace our roof, it was $5000. Since we had someone else remove and reinstall the panels, they say their warranty is void, even though the panels worked fine for over a year.
The process to get solar was easy and painless. Very impressive. The issue?Apparently our roof was nearing the end of its life. We were new homeowners and they never once mentioned it, even though they were the ones who came to us trying to convince us to get solar. We were told it'd be a couple grand for them to remove the solar panels and put them back up if we were going to have our roof done. When the time came, 3 years after we got the solar panels, we were quoted 19.2k, with an obscure discount possible if they do the roofing for us, and about 19k for them to do the roofing for us. So the cost to remove and replace the solar was equal to the cost of removing and replacing the solar, doubling the cost of getting our roof done, which is already an expensive part of home maintenance. If we had been informed we would need a new roof, we would have waited for solar until after we replaced it.So here we are, going from around 19k for a roof replacement, to 38k.I found a company about an hour away to do the solar panel removal and replacement for us. They will charge about 12.6k and cover us under their warranty after, despite the solar panels coming from another company.I can't ethically allow them to do my roofing even if they would be cheaper, because such predatory practices bother me. I had made the mistake of focusing my research on the price of their system and if it was reasonable, and didn't consider this factor.Didn't expect to regret getting solar. But here we are. The cost of removal and replacement for roofing alone will make it so the solar will never be cheaper than the cost of just having city electricity.Another fun issue was, we were told we would receive $17k that we could then make one big payment and reduce our monthly solar bill.Turns out, it is a tax CREDIT. We didn't receive that money, they just reduce our tax burden and we had to pay $0 instead until the credit was used up.So we ended up not being able to make a big payment, and our solar bill is around $322, as compared to the $200 or less for electricity that we were paying previously.Another review also stated Enium, the person who provides the financing, takes a lein on the house, and we can't get a HELOC until we pay off the solar. Which is fun, because I was going to get a HELOC soon.Sounds like this company really just wants to get what they want and not be transparent about the true cost to consumers.
Such a process deciding which solar option best fits your home! Nationwide simplified it and gave me very easy options to consider.Upon going with Nationwide Solar vs the competition, the process was made even easier with scheduling, install and support. There is no better in the business! Ty Nationwide Solar!
