I had a commercial building remodel that required various doors and windows. Their window prices for non-standard windows are actually pretty good, I dont know much about commercial doors and Slack is known in the community for being the commercial door people. These doors/frames are installed completely different than residential doors/frames and I also needed to comply with ADA regulations so regardless of the cost, I wanted to work with someone that would sell me what I needed and make it easy to work with. Well, they are expensive and that would've been okay if the service would have matched the price. Nope. I ordered 4 windows and 3 commercial doors/frames with associated hardware. No problems at all with windows (except that they lost the screens but I was able to go back by a week later to pick them up).1. They dont communicate well. I had to ask for several weeks for prices. Communication in general is poor and causes me extra work to constantly follow up with them.2. They take a LONG TIME to load up materials. They do not start assembling and gathering your stuff (some special order, some off the shelf) until AFTER you arrive to pick it up.3. They blamed me for ordering the wrong door and charged me an extra $300 to make it right. They sold me 2 exterior doors, 2 deadbolts, and 2 door handles. You would assume that the door would come with enough holes but NOPE...that's an extra $300 and another week. Unfortunately, I cant return the single hole doors since it was special order. I went ahead and paid the additional $300 labor charge.4. I wasn't going to write a review but realized while installing the door locks that none of the 4 locks are keyed alike meaning each lock for the same condo will have 4 different keys. Arrg! I just sent them an email but I am just really annoyed now. They will probably blame me for not knowing.Next time I will try ordering online or buying from Los Angeles. It cant cost me any more money and certainly wouldn't take more time. Service in the store is "okay" at best. Kind of feels like a shop that has been around a long time, they politely ignore new customers. No smiles, no "welcome in". I envision the store being fat & happy with their existing customers and really have no need for new customers. I really hope they continue to employ people in Bakersfield but also hope a new company opens up more eager to attract new customers.Edit update after reading response from Owner: Notice how there isn't an apology or sympathy from Owner? There were two condos to my building: residential condo & commercial condo. They supplied all the commercial side. IDK, I truly wish them the best. No hard feelings and no ill will. Oh...and they ended up re-keying all the locks for me at no cost. That's super cool...but took 30+ minutes waiting. Maybe I would like this place more if I got paid by the hour.
Lousy service. Very difficult to communicate with. Order was two weeks late and nobody informed me when my order actually arrived. Picked my windows up and they were all unpackaged and sitting outside with hundreds of other windows. They were dirty, scuffed, and wet. If I hadn’t kept emailing and calling them I highly doubt they would’ve ever even called me about my order. I highly recommend you use someone else.
I highly recommend GH Slack & Son--huge selection, great staff, super knowledgable (much more so than Home Depot or Lowe's). GH Slack supplied the doors, windows, hardware, moulding, shower glass and mirrors for my house and it looks beautiful! I will go to Slack when I buy doors and windows for my next house too :)
Honestly, my initial experience with an employee was very disappointing.However, a wonderful employee, Justin, redeemed the reputation of GH Slack and Sons. Very respectful, very smart and very helpful. I was glad that he was around to assist me when the other employee was out for lunch. He helped get the orders straightened out because there was a mistake and while it took my original order to get processed after multiple phone calls and visits with the other employee for almost 2 months, he managed to get the correct door levers in 5 days! Thanks again, Justin.
