It’s often hard to find quality businesses in Fairbanks, but Great Land Window is a notable exception. I went in looking for advice for windows in a house we purchased and Chip spent a half hour with me, talking me through adjustment and maintenance of the high quality windows in our house, which were not even produced by their company. When I need to purchase windows, window, accessories, or doors I will go to this company.
In 2009, I finally achieved a dream. I was able to upgrade the patios doors in my home - built in 1977. I had wanted some of Great Land Windows doors since I became aware of them from 'Slope experience. I knew they were greatI ordered four of them - two double-openers, two single opening. They arrived and installed simply and easily - built to 'fit like a glove' - they did.I needed help with an adjustment on them one time since and got that quickly and easily over the phone. They've been AWESOME since they were installed. So it's no surprise that I just placed an order for 13 (or 15, if I also replace my picture windows) windows to replace all of the windows in the house.
We have had Great Land windows for some time now and are VERY pleased with them! Mostly we are pleased with the folks that work there! they are super helpful and know a ton about the process and all that it takes to get you a good window! They were recommended by friends of ours and we have not regretted the beautiful windows we have! We get compliments ALL. THE. TIME on our lovely windows! Thanks Great Land! we are happy to recommend you to any and all window buyers!
Great Land windows are locally made. Owners are the Vaughns, a local father/son team. They have a nice building on Van Horn where you can watch the process. They are quality tight windows. The tilt turns open two ways. You can wash the outside from inside. It was a pleasure dealing with Chip. He was very helpful with my order. I am pleased with my experience.Downsides: they do not deliver, nor do they take credit cards. The screens require additional brackets which need to be glued to the outside. This wasn't really a problem but requires warmish weather.Upside: They sell Fensterman blinds which fit the windows perfectly. We love our new windows from Great Land.
I just installed a glass door with an attached side window that were custom built by Great Land. I'm very pleased with the results. They replaced an old Pella window, and I cut out the wall of our log house to change the window into a door. It's noticeably tighter and better quality.Their windows require a substantial lead time for fabrication, and they cost a lot of money. I have planned this project for several years, and it came out just as I hoped. The door feels solid and smooth, and the air seal is very good because the (nine) latches are all cams that compress the door seal. Both the door and the window are triple glazed, tempered glass. The door has a good quality security latch with keys. I got the low-e glass because the door and window are on the north side of the house, but the glass does not appear to be tinted, so visibility is excellent.
