Just had a wonderful experience going to this store to have a small job done. Walked in with an antique picture frame that needed a piece of glass. The owner was great and told me to return in a half hour. So I went to Thorne's, had a lovely crepe at the new crepe cafe for lunch and returned to pick up my finished frame. Easy, quick and very reasonably priced. Couldn't have been better!!Many thanks.
One, their telephone number is incorrect, so to check them out in my car, driving from Amherst to Northampton, was for nothing. I really should ask for gas money. Anyway, they wanted $50 for my piece of glass for a picture frame. Amherst Glass wanted $36. To my surprise Michael's wanted $25, so I went with them. Anyway, i had no brains, they are rated 3.1 (horrible), but I went there anyway. Big mistake. So what's the deal with $50? They are the only shop in Northampton? They use some kind of divine materials? Don't waste your time.
I bought a dresser and wanted a glass top for easy cleaning since was rattan. I brought in the dresser to the shop and Chris fitted it perfectly with a beautifully curved piece of glass that looks like a million. So happy, this is true artisan workmanship!
I use Smith glass all the time and they do a great job. I really appreciate the workmanship so far that I have received. It is a working shop full of sharp objects so be aware of this when you show up. Sometimes he's in the back so you may have to wait or yell for him but he will come out.
Chris does some of the best framing work I have ever seen. He has done most of the pieces in my home and it's as simple as me bringing the art in and saying "do what you think." I have not been disappointed yet! His eye for color and texture is just amazing!
