Edit: There were some delays on my part but Hi-Tech did indeed follow up on my original concerns. Sean and Tony were very nice to work with and discussed the issues to my satisfaction. As for the shelf we determined it was removed from the wall because it would interfere with the new door. Hi-Tech offered to take the shelf back to the shop, cut it down and helped reinstall it.---My first time ever leaving a review, but I had to after my experience having three doors installed on my home and detached garage.I will say upfront that I am happy with the doors themselves. However, there are issues with their communication processes. This is a common theme among negative reviews. Do not expect them to answer emails if you have a question or concern. The day after my install I emailed some questions, one of which concerned a shelf in my garage that was now no longer on the wall. I tried not to place blame but when it is on the wall before the work and on the floor the next clearly the work contributed to the problem. The reply I got (only after accounting got in touch for the remaining money) was not satisfactory. They implied that it is not noted on the final form you signed tough luck.I admit that it is on me for not going into the garage to fully check the work. But it was snowing, cold, and I was not wearing a jacket when I checked the exterior and tested the locks. The feeling of being ghosted and lack of effort to even work with me is the biggest problem. At this point I now also question the installation itself. I am not a professional, but the number of shims (I count six) and how much the old wood/frame was cut away make me concerned. I understand the garage is incredibly old and not in alignment anymore. But I get the feeling they do not provide their install crews with adequate supplies. This is reinforced when I questioned the installer about a gap left in the floor at my new front door: "they don't really give us anything for that".
Don't recommend, no one in this company knows how to communicate with each other. Receptionist is useless, could not answer basic questions and ether had to be put on hold till someone else is there to talk to or leave messages to sales people with no response. Went with with recommendation but once got job, went down hill. original sales guy was good, came qouted, messured window needed and then let insurance deal with billing. Sales guy and a second guy separately came to messaure window. They took deposit then went on holiday and took 2 months to get window in when told it take 4 weeks. First window cracked on install, guy blamed size, but they installed it and trim was all good. Miscommunication they had no idea what was going on at main office. had to get on them for when window was being re ordered and when they were going to install. Second window installed good but they cut the second rubber seal off all the trim. They were late to all scheduled appointments. Installers came un prepared and had to use my window cleaning supplies.I am glad my window is fixed and at the end of all it it looks OK, but was a big pain to try and deal with this company. Would have been better if they communicate to me when they ordered glass, set apointment time and keep me updated instead of the circles I had to go through to push them to get the job done, responding to me day to weeks later.
Hi 2 years later, windows gathering condensation on the inside. I replaced these windows because I was getting condensation on the old ones and was told they need replacing. I don’t know if we had super bad luck with the installation of the doors and windows. Feeling like I made a bad choice. The windows are great and look good. The outside doors not so good. They don’t close properly and the back door was put on backwards. They feel cheap. We called a week or so after install in September and was told someone was coming to take a look. No one contacted us, and with the cold the door is getting worst, it’s more noticeable. Happy Canadian made.
Installer refused to use drip edge, insisting it’s not standard and we didn’t have one. Guess what? Window leaks, opened it up and installers cut the old drip edge off and didn’t replace. There are massive gaps between the window and my house. I have video showing the water streaming into my house but can’t upload here. Not going to bother using the lifetime warranty since the same garbage installers, who were quoted as being “the best”, can’t be trusted. DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY. I paid in full and am now paying someone else to fix their mess PLUS fix all the damage to my house from leaking inside the walls.
After several attempts to repair our patio door that leaked every time it rained and the yellowing door slabs. Hi Tech finally replaced the entire door on warranty. The door slabs were a slightly different white than the casing so we had hi-tech paint them bright white. The color was perfect but the paint job was oversprayed on the window and chipping around the top window. Also what we were not told is the bottom would be going from a beautiful aluminum footplate to an ugly cheap black plastic that sounds hollow when you step on it. Hi Tech confirmed that this is now their standard and no other foot plate is available. I sent pics of this to Polar Windows in Winnipeg and they confirmed that they do no use this black plastic and that they use aluminum as we had before the replacement.
