Disappointing Experience with Pricing and Communication[Update: In response to the owner's reply below, I would like to add that his formal written estimate explicitly stated that prices are "guaranteed for 15 days." I accepted the quote within this window. His claim that he was only providing "ballpark pricing" contradicts his own official documentation.]I had a frustrating experience with Stonehenge Masonry and would advise caution regarding their initial estimates.In mid-March, I contacted them for a straightforward project: building two front porch columns. I provided the exact dimensions (9 feet tall, 18 inches square) and the specific stone required. Pictures were also provided. The owner provided a formal written estimate for $5,800. Since the price was competitive and aligned with other bids, I accepted and asked the owner to visit the site to review logistics.During the visit, the owner assured me my project was in his queue and he just needed to check stone size and availability. He never mentioned the initial quote would change. Furthermore, nowhere in his official Terms and Conditions did it state that the estimate was invalid without a prior site inspection.After that visit, communication slowed. When he did reply, he cited being busy with other projects. Eventually, my follow-ups went unanswered. Over two months later, on May 20, I finally received an email, but it was a new quote for $7,200. This was a significant increase with no prior discussion.When I called to ask about the change, the owner was dismissive. He claimed it was unrealistic to expect a firm quote based on pictures, despite the detailed dimensions provided, and stated I should have known his price was too low. He took no responsibility for the delays.If an estimate is only a rough guess until a site visit, a professional business should state that clearly upfront. Sadly, I lost over two months of the construction season to poor communication and unexpected price changes.

The bricks under our bay window were losing their veneer, and were actually crumbling. Who knew that the base bricks were so soft and prone to disintegrating (22 years). Stonehenge Masonry to the rescue. In 2 days Tim and Ryan transformed this mess into a thing of beauty. They were VERY professional and a credit to their profession. Highly recommended (and the cost was very reasonable).
