It's taken me a while to write this because I hate leaving a negative review of a local small business, but I've had to look at these floors for two years and it's pushed me to give my experience. My contractor recommended Lehigh Valley Hardwood Floors as he had done work with them for decades. I needed my first floor and stairs refinished, and a new floor installed on my second floor. They came in almost $2000 less than the other quote I got for the same scope of work, so I went with Colleen (the owner). To start, there were excessive delays and poor communication about these delays. After the installation was botched, there was another delay before it was put back into the schedule to be repaired. While I understand that things happened, these cost me a 6-week delay in getting the rest of my house completed. But on to the workmanship, or lack thereof. After the installation and refinishing was initially completed, the refinish on the first floor was fine for the most part, but both my contractor and I noticed low spots/gaps and chips missing out of the second floor, 20+ of them. Colleen came out and said something along the lines of that the installers were supposed to cut off the ends of boards that were damaged during manufacturing, but that they didn't and just installed the whole boards including the flaws. She agreed to repair it, and... a few weeks later she finally did.Unfortunately, her solution was to slap putty in the gaps and refinish the floor. Not only did this turn out ugly because of the sheer amount of repair locations, but it's not lasting. I've already lost one chunk of putty, and I see it cracking in other places. On top of that, the floor is separating and developing visible gaps, and often the floor crunches under my foot when I walk on it: what's crunching, and how long until it breaks? The first floor, which contains some patches done by my contractor with the same wood used on the second floor, has none of these issues. So that indicates to me that it's not a house/environment issue, as the first floor patches should be showing the same problems.I gave up. Not only was it obvious that the owner wasn't interested in repairing the floor correctly, but the "terms and conditions" of the invoice are written to exclude any flooring that isn't installed in a humidor, as excessively high or low humidity will void it. So the warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on.I took several pictures: you be the judge and decide if this finish quality works for you. Maybe I'm picky. Had the second floor been even repaired correctly, I could have forgiven the initial installation problems. But the fact that I have to look at this every day until I decide to pay to get it redone, I can't look past.
Installing hardwood flooring is a major project and honest reviews are critically helpful when choosing a provider. We did our due diligence in considering our selection and are very pleased to have used Lehigh Valley Hardwood Flooring. The project was to replace carpeting on the stairs to the second floor, the second floor hallway, and all four bedrooms. At all times the entire staff has been professional, accessible, helpful, reliable, conscientious and friendly. The result is perfect and the follow-up attention to details has been exemplary. Obviously, I would not hesitate to recommend Lehigh Valley Hardwood Flooring based on our experience.
Very familiar with the quality and workmanship, having used them for thirty years in multiple homes and having worked for them years ago. This family owned business has been in business for over 60 years and I have most beautiful floors because of them! I decided to post today because they’re currently doing work at my home replacing portions of and repairing damaged floors. The craftsmanship and talent is absolutely amazing! The crews are respectful and considerate of me and my home. Personally, I don’t believe there is another flooring company in the valley that is even close to the knowledge, expertise, and talent of LVHF. I believe the prices are very reasonable and so many choices! Personally, I prefer true hardwood and not laminate, although they even offer laminates. Highly recommend LVHF!
Can’t recommend them enough!! They gave new life to our old home and much exceeded our expectations of what we thought would be possible. When we ripped up our carpet, we found mostly destroyed hardwood and one room with only sub floor. They re-finished the existing hardwood to look brand new and installed a new hardwood floor in the living room and came up with a creative way to make it blend seamlessly with the refinished hardwood. It matches perfectly. They also filled in missing pieces of wood, had to build some new pieces on our landing and risers and repaired our closet flooring. Colleen was great to work with and her team was quick, friendly and fair.
I will start by saying that Johnny, Dion and Nathan, the workers, were wonderful people that did a great job on our floors. They are highly skilled and completely competent in their abilities. There was an unfortunate accident during our job where they accidentally knocked a picture off the powder room wall that ruptured the toilet pipe coming out of the wall while blowing the sawdust out before staining. This resulted in flooding of our basement, kitchen and powder room. Johnny and Dion were kind and extremely apologetic for the accident and stayed to help us clean everything up. We had to call an emergency plumber which cost us $2,200 because it was after hours for the plumber. Portions of our floors needed to be ripped up and the sub flooring needed to dry. It took an extra 5 days for the floors to be completed. The problem started when Colleen, the owner, got involved. She refused to pay the plumbing bill and then proceeded to blame the accident on us saying that Johnny and Dion said that we refused to take the picture down in the bathroom that caused the incident. Before the project started we asked them, “is there anything else you need from us,” they said “nope were good”. We didn’t even realize that that picture was still on the wall and we would not have even realized that it could have been a problem. We don’t do this for a living. We would have been happy to do anything they needed us to do. We had a great rapport with Johnny and Dion. We incurred a weeks worth of extra costs such as continuing to eat out, purchasing blowers to dry the sub flooring and materials for my husband to do repairs from holes in the wall that the plumbers needed to make to get to pipes. It is also important to note that Colleen refused to use her insurance to cover this mistake as she did not want her premium to go up. This is what she told me directly. Colleen was calculated and dishonest in how she handled this incident. To put it honestly she is a terrible business woman with only her best interest in mind, not the customer!!! If all goes well you will be fine, but if you have any issues during the job, GOOD LUCK!! I would NOT recommend Colleen as a company for flooring.
