We hired Bill Chamberlain to refinish our floors. It was a nightmare. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Our floor are horrible and Bill walked off the job after calling me an old man.
Bill did a great job renovating and refinishing our 120 year old fir floors which required a lot of work patching in new flooring in water damaged areas including removing old tar and lead paint finishes. His price was fair and the floors looked great when done. He came back without any questions to fix a couple spots that needed another coat for no extra charge. He also gave great advice to help me in the DIY work leading up to the floor refinishing scope which helped me a great deal. I plan on using Bill for the rest of my floors as my renovation work continues. He tends to be busy so it can sometimes take a bit to get a call back but his work is solid, he is very considerate and nice to work with.
Bill did a good job with my floor buffing and resealing. The floors were sanded and refinished about 2 years ago and then my dishwasher started to spit water out, doing some light damage to the floors. Bill was one of the few contractors who would work with me and the manufacturer in the claims process. Most will not, or charge you to show up. He also suggested a solution that didn't require a whole refinish, pulling up baseboards, etc... It would have been huge hassle and problematic for my cabinets.The end result was nice, the boards that had swelled up were buffed down nicely and most scratches elsewhere don't show. I didn't expect the deep scratches to come out, but far more did than I had thought and it looks nice.It was a small job and they were done within a day.
We hired Bill to refinish approximately 1000 sq ft of hardwoods in our home. I was very impressed with the time he took to answer all of my questions while here estimating the job. He was quick to answer any additional questions through e-mail and very helpful. His price was right in the middle of our other quotes, and seemed reasonable. He also seemed like a hard worker, trustworthy and full of integrity. ??Bill was here on time the first day and things were off to a great start until it was time for the first coat of sealer. Someone called in sick one day, then there were several days Bill said he would be here and never showed. (He even said he would work on Saturday, and then on Sunday, but never did.) He always had an excuse and would blame his workers even though e-mail after e-mail said HE would be here the next day. ??The second coat should have been done on Thursday and was not done until the next Monday. It still looked thin in spots and we were not satisfied, so Bill ended up doing a third coat. All said and done, we did not get back into the house until that Friday, a full week after we were supposed to be able to come home. Finding housing for an unexpected week (for a family of 6 + a dog) was not an easy task. We had other projects scheduled and being 1 week behind made it difficult to prepare for them. ??Bill's lack of follow through and communication (once things went wrong) was very frustrating. He never came back to finish the job (putting back doors, removing tape, cleaning up his stuff...which is still here a week after he was supposed to pick it up.) We were able to negotiate an approximately 17% discount, which helped ease the inconvenience, but the fact that we had to ask for this instead of it being offered was just one more reason to question Bill's integrity. He clearly messed up, he knew he messed up and he didn't offer to make it right! ??We also found that pretty much every baseboard was marked, several had deep groves in them (presumably from the sander) and there were splashes of sealer on them in several places. We will now need to repaint every baseboard instead of just touching some up. If we had known how sloppy they would be, we would have taken the time to remove every baseboard to protect them. This was a very negative experience. It is hard to write such a scathing review, and this is not something we have ever done before, but the reviews on this site helped us pick him. We feel others should be warned...we would never recommend using The Floor Doctor.
Wow... My hard wood floors look amazing!! When we first bought our home we accidentally found old growth wood floors. Thinking that they were unrepairable planned on getting carpet. A great friend of ours recommended Bill Chamberlin (The Floor Doctor) to come and look at the floors before we ripped out the wood flooring. We called Bill and he come to our home looked around and with confidence, told us he cold make these floors look amazing..... He was right, My floors look amazing!! I'm so very happy with the work, price and professionalism we got from The Floor Doctor Thank you Thank you Thank you!
