March 2, 2026.My Garage door torsion spring broke.March 3, 2026.Went to their previous location which was on Des Meurons(didn't know they moved ??), saw the sign for new location, drove there no issues. Got inside with my broken spring(my first time replacing it myself), the gentleman at the front desk pointed me to the parts desk - which is 5 steps away. The parts person was really nice, he knew what needed to be done in order to get me the right spring. I also needed a garage door hinge, he also found me an exact match - best part, the price of the hinge was 3 times less than home depot ????. Overall, 5 ? experience. I don't really do google reviews, but I feel like they deserve it on this one.
I ordered a garage door over 3 months ago from André - a seamless quick process. The good experience ended there - the only things I received were excuses for why my door was delayed. No one ever called to update me delivery information - I only got updates if I phoned. The "build date" was a moving target with no explanation given for delays. I asked for the "boss" to call me twice - no call was returned. This company cares nothing for customer service - all they were interested in was taking a deposit for the order and then you don't exist. I asked for and received a refund of my deposit and ordered another door from a trustworthy company (better quality and cheaper too). Close the door on this fly by night company.
I had a new garage door installed last fall and I only have positive things to say about the experience. They identified some concrete work that needed doing and were able to help me find great trade person to solve my problem. Unfortunately, the other day I backed, was certain the garage door was open... But it was not....I called requesting a technician solve my problem that day, and Mike showed up very promptly. He wasted no time identifying the problem and solving it. Kudos to Mike and my sales person, Cal , who made my garage door shopping a pleasant experience!
Summary: Disappointment about double dipping of labour costs.Context: I received a response in only a couple days from the company when I sent them a message online. Their receptionist was polite, professional, and concise. Set me up with an appointment to get someone to measure my door frame to build me a precise quote.5/5 starsThe gentleman who came was friendly, softly spoken, and a delight to talk to. I asked about getting two quotes; 1 with a door opener purchased through the company 1 with an opener I purchase on my own. I also asked if there would be any extra cost to install my own opener to which I was informed that if the other work was being done then no, it would be covered.5/5 starsI got a call from a tired gruff sounding sales person (C). He outlined the process, and the two quotes with their differences without providing prices. I asked him if there would be any hidden or extra charges if I provided my own parts such as an opener. He said if I am buying their services, labour costs are covered in both quotes. I thanked him for the call and soon after I got an email with 2 quotes. This was better service than other businesses at this point as other businesses would refuse to offer more than 1 quote. One of the two quotes provided with an American Liftmaster opener costing $670 before tax, not to forget the hidden monthly subscription fee it would cost to access it's smart features if I wanted that.I purchased my own opener for after tax $229 with the same smart features and no hidden subscription fees from a more reputable Canadian brand.Side note: Overhead Door Company of Winnipeg should not be supporting American businesses or sourcing parts from America in the midst of an American initiated trade war. It's anti-Canadian to fund American oligarchs. After other businesses had their chance, I contacted sales and confirmed I would like to use Overhead Doors. Despite their prices being ($191) more expensive ($2,561 total). They provided better customer service up to this point which made me assume if something went wrong they would not try to run away from their mistakes. My mistake was this assumption.Sales came back with a third quote and added an additional $200 for labour already included in the original quote. I reported this error and noted that the light grey on white background text of each quote states;"A measurement and evaluation of the premises by a professional is highly recommended and will confirm the Precise cost of your project"I followed this up with the thesaurus of Precise being;accurate, clear-cut, exact, literal. And noted a professional has already come by to measure the frame, confirmed the precise cost.Sales doubled down on the double dipping and demanded the $200 double charge of labour.0/5 starsI really did wish sales was at least half as decent as all the other departments. Would have stuck with them and given their company my money for their companies services had they just taken a moment to put aside their very big feelings, stuck to the Precise quote they provided. Instead, I have proceeded with this project at a competitor for $391 less and with zero attempted duplicate charges for labour.
Fast courteous service for a door not opening) properly that turned into a need for a follow up call to do additional work including an opener replacement, the installer Ryan was very quick and courteous, fully satisfied with all aspects of the experience, especially the second tech Ryan.
