Gene and family built our house this past summer. I remember Gene starting his business out of a family owned store on Treadway. He has since grown his business into one of the biggest home builders in Abilene. The building process was an up and down experience, especially doing while we lived out of state. I could always count on Gene to take care of the process. We have no intentions on moving, but Gene would be my first call if we ever did. I would highly recommend.
Update:I posted this on Saturday. Sunday morning I had a text waiting for me from the business owner. He had an AC guy come out on Monday and check out my AC unit to make sure we had a drip pan installed. Apparently we do, so not sure why the guy we had come out earlier said we didn't.The owner said he'll have an electrician come out to look at the light fixtures as well. So I'm impressed and will change my rating to reflect that! I do still highly recommend a realtor or at least a 3rd party inspector to check everything out regardless to who you go with. It's just a smart thing to do and something I should have done.TLDR: hire a realtor before working with Lantrip. It's a good idea anyway, but it will save you a lot of time and frustration.We moved into our home back in 2019. We loved our new home (still do really), but we started noticing things missed and corners cut. I'm writing this only now because of the issue with the light fixture in our dining room which has recently gotten worse. The proverbial last straw you might say. I only recently got a ladder tall enough for me to see that it's not fully connected to the ceiling. I thought all this time it was just a screw that needed to be tightened or something needed to be slightly adjusted. I've attached a picture of this so you can see what I mean.So some things we wouldn't have caught like not knowing that they didn't install a drip pan for the interior AC unit. But also things I wish I had hired a realtor to help point out the things we should have caught, but didn't catch. The paint drips in just about every cabinet drawer, the crooked light fixture I mentioned earlier, the low spot in our front yard where water pools every time we get enough rain. I did thankfully catch the mistake they made regarding our data ports. If you don't know, data ports are just ethernet jacks that you can plug a computer into and the ethernet cables are ran up the attic and to a single point where you'd have your modem and router stored. Instead of the rj45 jacks (used for ethernet cables) they used rj11 jacks (used for landline telephones) which are too small for an ethernet cable to plug into. After a lot of me calling, texting, and leaving voicemails for a couple of weeks I finally got them to fix that part of the issue as well as the other issue with the other end of the ethernet cables not having a jack connected for me to plug it into my router! They were expecting me to do it instead!Other issues I tried to get fixed I was unable to reach anyone. For the first year and a half I tried texting, calling, and leaving voice mails. I eventually gave up because it was obvious I wasn't going to get anyone out here to fix anything that should have been done right the first time. So if you made it this far, thank you for reading! Please make sure you find and hire a good realtor before you buy a new or otherwise home. It's worth the money if you find a good one!
