After the basement framing of our new house was completed and had passed inspection, Alair went ahead without discussing or consulting and began furring the basement. Meaning the Alair carpenter added wood to the existing framing (which was already more than adequate for insulation) to make it an inch or so thicker. They don't answer emails about what is going on or why they are doing it. The drywaller and insulator contractors told us had no idea why they were doing this. Then Alair slip us a massive bill for the materials, several weeks of their carpenter's full time work, the project management fees plus the Alair fees of this nonsense project. After nearly twenty emails they finally admit over email that it actually wasn't necessary for the basement to be furred.... That was just one example. Wasted a lot of time and energy dealing with this sort of stuff with Alair.
Without a doubt, we would build with Alair Homes again. At the best of times building a new custom home can be challenging, and with such a large purchase we wanted to make sure we had a builder we could trust.Paul McGavigan, Felix Charette, Ryan Baldock, and Frank at Alair Homes Edmonton made it a great experience, and we had a lot of fun working with them. Specifically, their strengths are great communication, expertise, and professionalism. They are passionate about building beautiful homes with artistry and just as importantly quality, detail, and within budget.I would not hesitate to build with Alair. They elevated our expectations on how great a home could be, and fun the process of building could be.Some over and above things they did:- Custom exterior details, they arranged to manufacture.- Pushed the boundaries on home innovation specifically with the mechanical and heating systems, site retaining walls, and more.- Professionalism with trades, neighbours, and with us at all times.- Things do come up during a complicated build, Felix and Ryan handled these challenges by always bringing solutions, being easy to reach and great at problem solving.- Many little things like keeping a clean site, keeping access clear, keeping the site secure and safe.- On the possession day there was a ribbon the door and smiles all around.There were no incentives for this review, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.Thank you Alair Team!
Our addition renovation was not without bumps and hiccups but when they were encountered. Alair was responsive to our concerns and did what should be done. With a change in Project Managers at the framing stage, Cory Symes seamlessly stepped in and got things going. The majority of the trades were great and did quality work. Appropriate measures were taken by Alair when Covid 19 hit to ensure that we as well as workers were safe. The end result is an open concept living room/beautiful kitchen, dining area and mudroom that makes me smile every time I walk into the area. I also love the new improved exterior, it looks like a new home. Thank you Cory for making it happen and sorting out some of the challenges that happened in the beginning. Also thanks to Grame, Nick and John!! Alair is a great team and company to hire for your residential construction needs.
We built our custom dream home with Paul, Jeremy and their team and would not hesitate to recommend them. We had a great working relationship with them which ended up being what we really appreciated the most about Alair. Very approachable and accessible, it's nice to feel like you are actually integral and in control of your project!
I am just finishing our dream house with Paul at Alair Homes Central and the experience has been fantastic! Paul and his team, Grant as our Project Manager and Even as a carpenter, are absolutely unreal to work with. I am demanding and specific in my wants and needs and they are always willing to work with me and get me what I want. Another t is open book where nothing is hidden and so simple to get through choosing products, trades, etc. They also have great relationships with trades that seem to get them, and thereby us, very competitive pricing! If you are looking to do a build or renovation, I would suggest at least giving them a crack at it! Paul and Co. at Alair will not disappoint.
