Recent public reviews show mixed experiences. Positive comments mention helpful communication from certain sales staff and a smooth buying process for some homeowners. Critical feedback highlights concerns about sales practices, referral or commission disputes, and issues discovered after move-in. Buyers frequently note the importance of clear communication on pricing, lender requirements, and upgrade installations.

Buyers, Agents, and Lenders – Please Be Cautious. At the Compton location, be aware that agent Larry has been known to mislead buyers in order to have them work directly with him and his preferred lender. Even if another agent brings a buyer to the property, the commission may not be honored. Buyers are often told they must cross-qualify with the preferred lender, only to later find out that the only way to secure the home is to work exclusively with Larry and his team. This creates a misleading and unfair experience for both buyers and their agents. Attempts to escalate the issue to the manager, Brian, have unfortunately proven unhelpful. Agents and buyers are strongly encouraged to proceed with caution. There are other locations that respect buyers, agents and lenders....

Purchased a new townhouse directly from Olson Homes. Went for the full wall/floor insulation upgrade. After almost 2 years, ceiling in the first floor started leaking from rains. Upon subsequent inspection, we found out that they did not put the insulation we purchased. If it weren’t for the rains, their mistake of not installing the insulation wouldn’t have been discovered. The contract that we signed with them included that insulation upgrade. A clear breach of contract. Three months after discovery of their error, they just send out a check for a measly amount. No communication nor apology during the whole ordeal. Did not even take into account damages, inconvenience, and disappointment that they caused. Very unprofessional. Can’t discount the possibility of bad faith on their part. A clear breach of contract and yet they didn’t even communicate with us what actions we would consider as fair in terms of rectifying their error.
This review is long overdue. We decided to go with Olson Homes for our first home purchase in California and boy was that the biggest mistake. I will say that I had a pleasant experience with one of the sales individual that we worked with which played a huge role in our decision to purchase. Everything outside of that was lackluster. We purchased a new build through Olson 3 years ago. First and foremost, the value for what we paid is appalling. The quality of materials used and the workmanship is beyond inferior. Im happy to share the details outside of this forum but I will say that my concerns were validated when I took a sample of the paint used on the baseboards to the store where it was purchased from (by Olson) and they were able to validate that they had used “the bottom barrel” of paints. Emphasis on the quotations. Don’t even get me started on the Customer Service. We had several issues after we moved in and it was like pulling teeth trying to get them to own up to their mistakes. There is no sense of accountability on their end. Don’t let these so called awards and recognitions fool you, they enticed us with $20 Home Depot gift cards to give them a 5 star rating (“nothing less than 5 stars” their requests) on the series of surveys we took. Fortunately, this is not my forever home. Thank God! Would I purchase from them again, NO! I would urge you to do your research and consider taking your hard earned money else where.
