EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING AND UNACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE – BUYER BEWAREWe bought our home from Highland Homes in the Trinity Falls area as first-time homebuyers, and this has been one of the most stressful and damaging experiences of our lives. After living in our home for one full year, we suddenly discovered that there is an additional tax called MUD (Municipal Utility District) tax that must be paid separately in Texas. We were completely unaware of this. No clear explanation. No warning. No proper disclosure. Nothing.Because we did not know about this tax, it went unpaid — and the consequences were severe. We were SUED by the tax office, and to make matters worse, a sheriff came to our door to inform us of the lawsuit. Imagine the shock, fear, and embarrassment of that situation, all because critical information was never properly explained to us.The most infuriating part? Highland Homes’ agents and/or the title company NEVER clearly explained this additional tax obligation, especially to us as first-time homebuyers. This is not a small detail — this is a major financial responsibility that directly affects monthly payments and legal standing. Explaining this should have been their absolute responsibility from day one. When we confronted them, instead of taking accountability, they simply responded with excuses like “Oh, we explained it” — which is completely false. This is just a way to avoid responsibility and cover their mistakes. If it had truly been explained properly, we would not be facing lawsuits and sheriffs at our front door. This experience shows a serious lack of transparency, ethics, and responsibility. Buyers are left to suffer the consequences while Highland Homes walks away without accountability.
We had a fantastic experience with Highland Homes as first-time homebuyers! From day one, everyone we worked with was professional, friendly, and incredibly helpful. Jarrod, our salesman, made the entire process clear and stress-free. He answered every question with patience and kept us well-informed.During construction, Mathew, our construction manager, did an outstanding job keeping things on track and communicating with us every step of the way. After closing, John took over with the warranty process and has been just as responsive and easy to work with.Highland Homes made what could have been an overwhelming experience truly enjoyable. We’re thrilled with our new home and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy, top-quality builder!
My clients were from out of state and had never heard of Highland Homes. I took them to a few of the house in various stages of be build so they can see the craftsmanship and materials that Highland Homes uses. By the time we got to the model they were sold instantly! It was a very smooth process from the sales agent, to the builder walk, to working with Highland Homes Loans as well. I would highly recommend Highland Homes because they stand behind their product.
Visited Highland in Trinity Falls. Left my information with the host at the 40 ft lots never got a call back with info or email on what I had requested.
Out of all the builders here in this neighborhood, I see the leased amount of complaints. I’ve owned 2 homes built by highland and I’m very pleased.
