J.S Hovnaian & Sons are one of the best companies to use. They truly believe in quality over quantity, offer array of designs for homes, all the employees there are amazing. I've personally known them for years and I cannot say a single bad thing about the owners, company, etc. They will respond to any questions, comments or concerns. This company and those who work for the company truly care about every client and people in general. They build beautiful homes and were featured on the television show Extreme Home Makeovers. If anyone had a negative experience, please reach out to them. They genuinely care and will do what it takes to make whatever corrected if need be.

We purchased a new home from them in May 2022. They apparently have no quality control and expect the new home owner to check every detail of their new home.

Finishings are poorly done. Large gaps in moldings filled with caulk, paint splattered on flooring and fireplace, kitchen cabinets not leveled. Countertops installed above the level of our gas stove caused a fire, leaking AC lines, sloppy plumbing under cabinets. Cabinets not secured in place
...just sitting on the floor. Be careful buying from them.

Repair people are the same individuals that did some of the original poor quality work. When they repair problems they create new ones.

We built with J.S. Hov & Sons 2 years ago and our subfloors were installed incorrectly in the entire first floor. We noticed issues 6 months into living in the home but it took over a year for them to acknowledge the issue and wouldn't do what was required to truly fix the problem (used a trial and error approach with under skilled labor), even after contacting the VP (Peter Hovnanian). They then stopped responding to us and pushed us to the warranty company for resolution. We should never have allowed it, but didn't know any better. The warranty company would not take our structural engineer or Shaw floors reports into consideration (which stated the subfloors were installed incorrectly) and instead used an arbitrary level sight and sound to determine IF there was a warranty covered issue. We lost that battle and because we let it go to arbitration we have no other recourse. The repairs are very expensive and NJ does not have a builders lemon law.
