D.R. HORTON IS RUINING LIVES, DO NOT BUY FROM THEMI cannot stress enough how living in a D.R. Horton home has turned into a complete nightmare for me and my family, this is not just an inconvenience, it’s affecting our daily lives, our health, and our peace of mind.I have a 2,007 sq. ft. home in Odessa, TX, and they installed an undersized 3-ton AC unit that cannot cool the house. On the hottest days, my family is forced to live in unbearable heat, while the AC freezes constantly. I have filed over 20 warranty tickets and had technicians come more than 20 times, yet nothing has been fixed. Their advice? “Keep your doors open” or “don’t set the thermostat below 70 degrees,” this is not a solution, it’s a refusal to take responsibility, leaving my family uncomfortable and stressed every single day.Based on Manual J calculations, a 2,007 sq. ft. home in Odessa, TX with 2 occupants requires roughly 4.25 tons of cooling. Even though the house is mostly empty during the day, we work 12-hour shifts and keep it closed, the installed 3-ton AC unit is clearly undersized, it cannot maintain safe or comfortable temperatures, even with standard insulation, double-pane windows, and minimal internal heat gain. This explains why the AC freezes and fails to cool the house properly, even following their instructions does not solve the problem, this is a clear design and installation failure.The problems don’t stop there, nails are popping out of the drywall throughout the house, creating hazards for my family, the concrete under the AC unit is crumbling, a serious safety concern. Tickets for these issues have been ignored for weeks, forcing us to live in unsafe conditions, a breaker has tripped for the furnace, and none of these issues have been addressed.Communication with D.R. Horton has been terrible, I have never spoken directly with anyone from warranty in person, not even with my “warranty tech,” the only time I can get a response is when I call upper management in the corporate office in Austin, when I went to their office off 191, they refused to speak with me without an appointment, but minutes after leaving, they called me about my concern, clearly, they can communicate if they want to, they just choose not to.On top of all this, instead of addressing the AC issues, they tried to force a data logger on my system to monitor how I use my own AC, this is invasive, unnecessary, and completely unacceptable.Special mentions, for all the wrong reasons, go to Sam (warranty tech), Shane (upper management), and Lorena from the 191 office, every interaction has been dismissive, unhelpful, and unprofessional, they have closed and ignored tickets with the time pretty much, refused accountability with the AC situation and left my family living in a home that is uncomfortable, unsafe, and poorly built.This situation has turned our home, supposedly a safe and comfortable place, into a source of stress, anxiety, and frustration, my family cannot enjoy our home, cannot feel safe, and cannot trust that D.R. Horton will ever resolve these problems.Bottom line, D.R. Horton does not honor warranties, builds unsafe and low-quality homes, and treats homeowners with complete disregard, if you care about your family, your sanity, and your hard-earned money, stay far away from this company.
