We moved from near Asheville to Raleigh Oct. 1, 2020.I will have to brag on the moving team we had with Smith Dray. Mark Poteat was the BEST, and his team of Christie & Tad, along with Bella who helped pack, just made this a terrific move. I have never seen such amazing work ethic and energy! They were all such fun to get to know and easy to work with. I actually missed them after spending nearly three full days with them!As I unpacked, I could just feel the care that Christie put nto packing my items. She is phenomenal !It has been my pleasure to work with this company. From the Rep., Sarah, who first gave us our quote, to office staff like Dannett, who communicated with us, all were so patient with me and so kind, understanding and helpful. Thank you, Smith Dray for a great move !
As a retired executive from a Fortune 500 company I was relocated no less than 7 times during my career. Moving can be a very stressful event but my wife and I became accustomed to having our prized possessions handled with superior care. Over our 42 years of marriage we have been fortunate to inherit irreplaceable family heirlooms that we dearly love and cherish. When I first met Sarah from Smith Dray (AshevilleCandler office) she assured me that our move would be handled by one of their two very best drivers. We felt reassured when she later informed us that Farris ,a local western NC driver ,had been assigned to us. The move occurred in July and as we continue our methodical unpacking in our new home we can without question report that has been a complete and total disaster. As of this date we can report that we have had 8 legs cracked or completely broken off of furniture. A marble topped dresser was broken in two by careless handling even after my wife reminded Farris and his team to be especially careful with that item. The overall damage has been distressing and has brought my wife to tears several times as she continues to review the aftermath of this move. I am not sure whether this is my last move but it certainly is my last with Smith Dray- Atlas Moving Company.After reading Smith Dray's response I can only say that I am not surprised by the pathetic finger pointing and their not accepting any blame. I would like to note to readers that I am not in any way seeking to file a claim or receive any monetary remuneration....my only purpose is to alert other potential customers of SD as to their poor customer service.January 22 2019Thought I would post an update on this terrible situation...As we continue to unload from our storage unit, as of now we have had 15 pieces of furniture that have had to be repaired...Farris and his team really did a number on us. Please please use caution when deciding whether to use this team for your next move.....
Smith Dray is a very professional and competent moving company. We used them for a local move and were very pleased from the estimator to the actual movers, and the charges were very fair and competitive. The company went out of their way to accommodate us by providing used supplies at no charge. They refunded the cost of new supplies which we originally purchased but did not use. The staff, including office, warehouse, and on site movers were all very professional and friendly. We would return to Smith Dray Line again if the need should arise.
