I'd recommend these guys without a second thought. I was able to pull the trigger on a move with them pretty quickly (I confirmed the move for a Friday on that Wednesday). They showed up when they said they would. They were incredibly polite and careful with me and with my things. They were flexible to take a breather as I was coaxing a skittish cat out of a crawl space and needed silence. In my new house, they accidentally dinged a door that was around a tight corner. They reached out to arrange getting it fixed at no cost to me.Their price was also really competitive and they came out a little under what they quoted me, too.I had them move my entire house and pack up and move my kitchen. Bed disassembly/reassembly. Several TVs, a bunch of large lamps, and fragile plates/cups/cooking items.
The actual movers were great. The management, not so much.I paid over $1000 ($900+ with a $100 tip) to move a 1BR with balcony 5 minutes away and they couldn’t complete the job. The truck wasn’t big enough to fit everything.I had to get a truck myself and make 2 more trips myself to get everything moved over.I called after the move and let them know I wasn’t satisfied with the service. They said they would find out more details and get back to me. Never heard back.I thought the point of hiring movers was to avoid the headache and have it done for you.Very unhappy with the service.
I used General Purpose Movers for a move out of state from Wisconsin. I called and talked to Taylor. He gave me a quote over the phone and said that it was an estimate, that he'd need to look at my things to really know how much it would cost. We set up that appointment, he came on time to my house and then gave a quote that was within $250 of what he estimated over the phone.Something that was really important to me is that Taylor spoke to both me and my husband. Being female in Wisconsin I experienced a lot of sexism. Lots of professionals would only speak to my husband about financial things. I didn't feel like that with anyone at General Purpose Movers.Taylor showed up with his team on a Wednesday afternoon, did an awesome job packing everything onto the truck and then he was the one who unloaded in the other state on Friday morning and was gone by maybe 11 am. There was no damage to anything and it was the smoothest move I've ever experienced. They were respectful of my things, packaged everything into the truck really well and arrived when they said they would. The only negative I would say is that most communication was via e-mail, even during the moving process. I feel like text or call would have been better because I wasn't really checking my e-mail while moving several states away. I still got the communication and there was notice of any time changes, I just think call or text would have been more convenient for me.
I chose GP because of favorable reviews in my neighborhood. I can't disagree at all! The two movers were punctual and personable. While I only had about a dozen items that had to be transported, a few were heavy or bulky. Some were both. The movers had no difficulty with anything, and the entire job was completed more quickly than I could have imagined. I plan to use GP again when the time comes for our major move.
Three strong and very careful young men moved my mother's (very heavy) piano from Madison to Baraboo, up and down stairs and through tight doorways on both ends of the move. They were so professional, courteous and did a truly impressive job all around. Would highly recommend!
