Cannot begin to express our satisfaction working with Hauk Custom Pools. Starting off with Jaime and his impeccable design plans to our project manager Brock’s incredible attention to details, our pool turned out perfect. Communication, follow through, and execution by Brock were all flawless. I highly recommend them without hesitation and they made what I was told might be a difficult process, quite a seamless one. Thank you!
We had an outstanding experience with Hauk Custom Pools, starting at our first meeting with Jaime Mejia our design consultant. His thoughtful suggestions, experience and knowledge delivered the pool design we had imagined. Jaime's attention to detail resulted in a very smooth and enjoyable process. Our Project Manager Trent James was outstanding as well, Trent Exceeded expectations throughout the entire pool and spa construction process. Trent did an exceptional job and we appreciated his attention to every detail and keeping us up to date on the construction schedule and who would be on the job site every day. Trent was always professional, amicable and a pleasure to work with. The entire team at Hauk Custom Pools has been great to work with and has always strived to complete all the work to our satisfaction. We would highly recommend Hauk Custom Pools, and especially Jaime and Trent, to anyone considering a pool and spa. Professional, knowledgeable and committed to customer satisfaction.
I want to share my full experience with Hauk Pools so future customers — and Riverbend Sandler, who now owns the company — understand what went well, what didn’t, and why my final rating is 3 out of 5 stars. This was my second Hauk pool. The first had communication and quality issues, but before signing again, I was assured things would be different. I’ll admit I’m fairly Type A when it comes to details and communication, and I made it clear that consistent updates and clear expectations would be key for me before construction began. That was noted as an area Hauk said had improved compared to my previous build. Unfortunately, while there were some positives this time, many of the same issues resurfaced during the project’s execution.Contract & TimelineThe contract said four months, and to their credit, the pool was done in about ten weeks. However, fewer than twenty actual workdays occurred, with long gaps followed by rushed work. While early completion sounds good, poor pacing caused avoidable mistakes.Conditions During ConstructionFor nearly six weeks, the pool sat green with algae and filled with debris from crews using it as a trash chute. Around the same time, the gas-line trench was left uncovered for nearly a month, creating a safety hazard. Both situations were unacceptable and fell short of Texas’s requirement for work to be done in a good and workmanlike manner.Design & PlanningThe plans showed three septic lids, but there were actually four — something I also missed and had already paid a portion of before ultimately removing the arbor from the design. Before construction began, it became clear the arbor would have been just a couple of inches from one lid and directly over a septic tank. While it technically could have stayed there, doing so would have limited future access for maintenance and changed the intended layout of the space.Hauk stated that steel posts had already been fabricated and billed roughly $3,000 for materials. After discussion, the cost was split while it appeared likely the materials could be reused on another project. I appreciate that they shared the cost, but the oversight should have been caught before any fabrication or billing. It ultimately reflected another example of missed detail and quality control.Concrete & DeckingThis phase was the most frustrating. I pointed out a crooked skimmer while the concrete was still wet and was told, “98% of customers wouldn’t notice.” Instead of fixing it, the crew hit it with a hammer, causing cracks that remain visible. Deck cuts were uneven, measurements off, and concrete ground down instead of re-poured.Subcontractor OversightI repeatedly had to stop mistakes myself — rebar installed wrong, coping added where it didn’t belong, crews following outdated plans. Hauk’s response was always, “That’s not on the plan.” Managing subcontractors is the contractor’s job, not the customer’s.Finishing & CloseoutOur final walkthrough was on September 11, with several items still incomplete. I followed up immediately, but most fixes dragged into late October. Some vendor delays were beyond Hauk’s control, but communication was poor until a new project manager stepped in during the last few weeks. She was communicative, responsive, and clearly cared — her professionalism made a noticeable difference.Cost & ValueI understand that costs have risen across the industry since my first pool in 2017. Labor, materials, and permitting are all more expensive now, and I accept that reality. But this pool — which is smaller and simpler — cost nearly twice as much as my previous one, without the same level of finish or attention to detail. That’s where my frustration comes from.Final AssessmentThe pool was finished faster than promised and looks good overall, and my family truly enjoys having it. I’m thankful to finally have a finished space to relax in. But the journey there was uneven — marked by poor communication, weak supervision, and inconsistent follow-through until the very end.Final Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
We had a great experience with Hauk Custom Pools on our backyard! They did a pool & spa + structure + outdoor kitchen + turf for us. I highly recommend working with Jaime on your design and having Brock as your project manager. Both communicated with us a ton and were flexible throughout the project. We made a lot of last minute changes and they were always accommodating. They also provided solid guidance throughout. All in all, I recommend working with Hauk!
This was our second pool build with Hauk and the experience exceeded our expectations. Tim our designer was great to work with and was very patient in helping us perfect the design. The build process was extremely smooth – Brock our construction manager was the absolute best. There was constant communication and updates throughout the process. We brought a few small items to Brock’s attention during the build and he was very quick to contact the various trades to have the items corrected. His follow through on punch list items following pool completion was timely and thorough. Jimmy the lighting guy designed a fantastic lighting package for the stone walls and outdoor kitchen/structure. The pool was completed ahead of the initially proposed timeline which is impressive given that current state of the construction industry. Thank you for a smooth process, and a special thanks to Brock for his attention to detail, and for getting this done so quickly!
