I am extremely disappointed with the unethical experience I had at Pinch A Penny Store #33, located at 5010 NW 34th Blvd in Gainesville, Florida. On March 23, 2026, I purchased a Hayward suction pool vacuum from this location. I chose this store over Amazon specifically because Kyle, the sales associate, and Savana, the store manager, offered a two-year warranty if purchased thru Pinch A Penny. However, at no point during the sale was I informed of a 20% restocking fee.The unit failed on April 1. When I brought it back for repair, I was subjected to a week of conflicting information and blatant dishonesty:- Contradictory Diagnosis: Management claimed the unit was clogged with debris and hair. However, I had previously taken the unit to another Pinch A Penny location where an employee disassembled it in front of me; the unit was completely clear of debris, yet the internal mechanism remained locked.- Failed Communication: I was repeatedly promised callbacks regarding testing that never occurred. I was told the unit was out for testing, only to later be told it had never left the shelf because the store had no service calls that week.- Unprofessional Management: When I requested a refund due to these ethical concerns, Savana insisted on an $89.80 restocking fee (20%). She claimed signs were posted throughout the store, yet she struggled to locate one herself when I asked.- Dismissive Ownership: I spoke with the owner, Kristine Moureau, who was entirely indifferent to the fact that her staff had repeatedly lied to me. Rather than addressing the lack of integrity in her store, she was only surprised that her staff had promised a weekend repair.I eventually accepted the $89.80 loss just to sever ties with this business. In my opinion it is clear that deceptive practices are normalized at this location, from the sales floor up to the ownership.
The Service Technician was very polite, friendly and knowledgeable. He quickly found the problem of an air leak in one of the Jandy valves. A broken part was replaced and everything is working properly now.
Had a new pool pump and control module installed today by Pinch A Penny technicians Jay and Eric. Very satisfying to work with these two staff members, as well as Savannah, the manager who assisted me in arranging new pump install. All very experienced, professional, courteous and expedient in their work. Jay and Eric took time to answer all my questions and explain operation of new system, gave helpful hints regarding pool and pump preventive maintenance. Very happy with whole experience, these folks are a real treasure and I wish them the best, thank you, all!
Joseph, the Manager at the 34th Street Pinch a Penny, is my new favorite person. My house is under contract to sell. Buyer inspections are tomorrow and out of nowhere my hot tub goes green. Are you kidding me! I call Pinch at just before 5pm (closing time) and Joseph, in my time of need, comes by my house after hours and stayed till like 7pm getting my hot tub set up again. That is friggin customer service people! That's how you keep clients long term. How often do you see the store manager of any business come to your house after hours to solve a problem? It wasn't even a big problem in itself, but because of the timing of the problem as it related to our home inspection, Joseph noticed that it was important to us.Joseph, thank you again for going above an beyond!
We are very pleased with our recent hot tub purchase. Mike and Kristine were knowledgeable, friendly, and did a fantastic job of keeping us updated on our custom order. Everything went smooth from ordering, delivering it on time, to a fantastic setup including taking the time to explain everything from usage to maintenance.
