We are so delighted we selected A-1 Pool Service, Inc of Hilton Head Island for a complete renovation of our 2005 Spa Pool and 1600 sq ft patio deck. Our old pool was well constructed but after 21-years needed some love.

A-1 was our easy top choice, of three local pool companies, because of their prompt response, fair price point, and the fact that the company is locally owned and has been in business for 34-years and. We are truly amazed with their high degree of professionalism, craftsmanship, and fix-it ingenuity that their employees have exhibited in the awful summer 2026 heat conditions.

The A-1 pool design and construction staff has been a pleasure to work with over the last year. We are in week three of a complete pool renovation and the quality of work is top-shelf. A-1's team has worked tirelessly 5-days a week (and two Saturdays) and we APPRECIATE it. Wow, how nice it is to see such pride and thorough craftsmanship.

Based on their high degree of quality, we are already signing up for A-1's weekly pool service to care for our new investment. A-1 completed their renovation work in 4 weeks and we absolutely love our new spa pool with modern hand rail, rebuilt sheer waterfall feature, new skimmers, filter, chlorinator, finished with gorgeous Turkish Silver Travertine, Spanish blue green tiles, and sparkling Island Reserve pool plaster.

Services provided; general construction, remodeling, design, leak/crack, water feature, and tile repairs, resurfacing, equipment upgrade and replacement.

Used them for more than a year for pool maintenance and repair. There are both good and bad aspects of using them.

the good -- they're dependable, they want to make sure that your pool is working well, within the organization they have a lot of expertise and employees who have been with them for a long time, and they generally respond quickly to problems.

the bad -- they've gotten too big to care about retaining any particular customer; you're likely to get a cryptic one-sentence response if you contact customer service; you have to be careful about expensive recommended repairs that you don't actually need; you get charged a 3+% transaction fee even if you pay by ACH rather than a credit card; and for me, they insisted on coming twice a week even though i) we don't rent out our house, ii) when we're here we generally keep the pool clean ourselves and run two pool vacuums so for at least half the year (when we're here) there's very little cleaning to be done by them the two times a week that they come, and iii) the other pool companies we spoke to only even proposed coming once a week unless you rent out your house.

Balancing the good and the bad, we decided to change companies.

Our pool tech with A-1 Pools is Jose Barragan. Jose manages our pool as if it were his own. August was a very wet month on the Island. Jose checked on it regularly, which was reassuring.

When Jose drives by our house and sees me outside, he will stop and ask me if everything is good with our pool. Jose is a personable, thoughtful, and professional individual. Our pool and deck stay crystal clean, and we can always count on Jose to be there for us!
