After a hail storm in May, we had about 10 roofers come out to our house for quotes, and Weather Shield stood out! I instantly got the sense that we'd be in the best of hands with them. They send out a roofer to take care of a patch on our roof quickly and have been patiently guiding us through every obstacle our insurance company throws our way.No one should ever have to deal with the experience we’ve had with insurance, but if you do, Matt and John are the advocates you want on your side.
I'm putting 3 stars instead of 2 stars because up until now, the people we've spoken with have been pretty good. We rent this home, so there's not a lot we can do about the issues we've had, but the workers they sent to replace the roof are not that great. We received no timeframe other than when they would send someone once the job was finished. We got no warning that they were going to be starting work, no call or email or even someone ringing the doorbell to let us know they were there, so we got woken up at the crack of dawn to people walking on the roof and dropping things. My husband works nights, so we couldn't even plan accordingly to help with his sleep schedule during the project, either. They left trash all over the place including nails so it was difficult to guide the dog to a safe spot in the yard to do his business. They completely smashed one of the drain pipes and broke the trunk of a sapling tree because they were not paying attention to where they were dropping and throwing things. They didn't finish everything on the first day, which wasn't a big deal, but then they waited until sunset to come back the following day and barely cleaned up their mess. Come day three, the same crap happened with getting woken up to a stampede across the roof and no notification or word of warning. Another mess to clean up and they still weren't done. They would come and go, sometimes every 2 hours or so, and a different truck with a different worker would show up, but never more than one truck at a time. And still, things aren't done. It's now 4-5 days later and there's still trash and supplies left in the yard. No idea if they're actually done with replacing the roof either, because every time we've checked, it just looks like it's still a WIP with bits of packaging sticking out from under the shingles. Our neighbors have been working on an addition to their house for months and their roof looks way better, even if it has taken 2-3 months to get it installed on the addition. I get that weather has played a factor, but aside from the first day when it rained off and on all day, there weren't any weather conditions that would have kept them from working. Now maybe this was just a bad crew or something because the guys we've dealt with before for leaks in the roof during the winter were very communicative and professional. Still, after what we've been through during this project, we're frustrated and disappointed in the company- especially considering that they're supposed to be a 4.9-star rated company. We would not use this company in the future and are glad we're not the ones paying for it, but hopefully, they did their job properly and won't have to come back out again because we don't want to keep dealing with these people. Also really hoping that we don't get fined by the city for having their crap in the yard still because that would just suck.UPDATE: It's now about a week later and we're still finding trash and debris left behind by the crews. My kids keep bringing me random pieces of metal sheeting from when they wrapped the windows and they keep pointing out rusty nails and ring shank nails in the grass alongside chunks of what looks like particle board and scraps of old shingles. Amazingly, my kids and dog haven't stepped on any of it or cut themselves in the process. The garden beds have been trampled, and several patches on the lawn have been torn up from all the work. They did come to clean up the last of their stuff from the front yard, but it was not promptly.
My house needed a new roof and siding. Lars Hottel is who I worked with. He sent the nicest crew, very respectful. They were fast in and out. They left the place clean and did a great job!
Weather Shield does great work. The crew was clearly very experienced, did a nice job protecting plants around the house, was very careful to do extra protection in the areas that we previously had leaks due to ice dams, and did a great job cleaning up. Big extra kudos go to our rep, Lars, who went above and beyond throughout the entire process. He helped us navigate insurance issues, figure out how to solve problems, and even came over on a Sunday to help us pick out the shingles for our roof. Thanks to Lars, this was far and away the best experience with a contractor we've had in over 30 years of taking care of all the issues that come along with owning a home. Couldn't recommend more highly.
Lars went above and beyond from start to finish dealing with my insurance company to having an install team there a week after everything was finalized. Highly recommend going with Weather Shield roofing great quality and great communication . Thanks again for all the hard work!
