After visiting a BYADU house in Florence, MA we contacted the office in Brunswick. We were in the process of moving from western MA to North Yarmouth, ME and were impressed with the concept, their models, and their openness to our ideas and variations. The whole building process - from design to site preparation to construction to change orders - was smooth and timely. Any time there was a wrinkle - and there were few - Jeff and James were quick to either respond themselves or send a staff member to attend to the details.

Communication lines were always open and their responses to our questions and requests were clear and timely. They were sensitive to our journey - from our house in Massachusetts where we had lived for 46 years to this restart in Maine - and clearly understood the emotional and logistical challenges that came with this major life transition.

As should be clear from the above, we recommend - without reservation - BYADU to anyone looking to purchase a small, well-built, energy-efficient, attractive home. The whole journey has been a pleasure! Without exception, every BYADU employee that we’ve had contact with has been friendly, highly skilled, and knowledgeable.

We’re settling in, loving the space, and very grateful to BYADU for all they’ve done to make this transition smooth and positive.

We are slightly biased because these guys and gals are our superheroes. After moving quickly through two absolutely awful contractors who were renovating our home, which essentially left us homeless in our backyard, Backyard ADU came in and quickly came up with the best and most affordable solution for us to move forward. Within less than a year, they had us back in a brand new, beautiful home. Our review wouldn't be different if we had started with them from the beginning. From the top of their company down, everyone on their crew had a great attitude, helpful and nice, with no drama. All the work was of great quality. Like any other builder in Maine, they are busy, but they always respond and show up when it matters.

Backyard ADUs helped us build a wonderful little ADU that fit our very limited space in Portland. We started with their L-Line model and tweaked it so it fit the location but still had all the amenities of home. One of the major pluses for me was the team managed city approval and utility installation. Small city lots can be a challenge and they made it happen. The company took care of everything, from permitting to construction , they walked us through every detail. The information and support in terms of design options , costs and timeline were incredible . We knew exactly what was being done, when it was to be completed and everything was on time. We worked with some of the kindest most accommodating people throughout the process, they were all very accessible and followed through with any questions or concerns. They felt like family!

So happy I went with Backyard ADU. It was a great experience. I had a fire while they were working on my house and they bumped me to the front of the line and got my home done two weeks early after moving up my date for completion 4 months. It was a pleasure to be in my new house this winter as it is solid and very Well insulated. When my neighbors saw how much insulation was going in my house, they said I’d be able to heat it with a candle. They were just about right. I was able to modify the floor plan so that I could have additional space be creating an upstairs, which gives me room for guests.
