Around 11:30 last night my wife and I started smelling a burnt chemical odor all through the house. No smoke, no fire, just this strong gross smell that wouldn’t go away. Like everybody, I’m on my phone looking it up while I’m running around the house feeling every outlet trying to figure out where it was coming from. The AC was off but the fan was still running, and when I checked the vents the smell hit me hard. That’s when I knew it was the HVAC.Called Jon McCartha first thing this morning and Jeff Russo was at my house by lunch. He found the problem right away — the condensation pump had burnt out and didn’t shut itself off like it’s supposed to. My unit’s about 8 years old. Fast, straight to the point, and clearly knew what he was doing. If you’re looking for a reliable, trustworthy, and experienced company, I highly recommend Mid-State Heating and Air.
I was starting to think honest HVAC companies were basically unicorns… until today. Huge thank you to Mid State Heating & Air, and especially to Jeff Russo. When Jeff first checked our AC unit, it appeared that the motor needed to be replaced — a $1,300 repair we were fully prepared to pay for because, well… in South Carolina summer heat without AC is not an option. When he began taking things apart to replace the motor, he found the actual issue: a stick lodged inside. He removed it, got everything running again within minutes, and instead of charging us for a replacement we didn’t need, only charged the $99 service call!Jeff easily could have replaced the motor and we never would’ve questioned it. That level of honesty and integrity seems unbelievable these days. We are so thankful to have experienced it.If you’re looking for someone who values integrity over profit, who actually diagnoses before replacing, and who treats customers like people instead of invoices — Mid State Heating & Air is that company. Look no further. Needless to say, I HIGHLY recommend them!!
We had an excellent experience with our HVAC technician, Chris. He was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about getting our system working again for my family. We reached out late yesterday afternoon, and Chris showed up first thing the next morning just as promised. He quickly diagnosed the issue and attempted to repair our old thermostat, but when it wasn’t possible, he replaced it and got everything working properly. He even went above and beyond by checking under the house and pointing out issues that had likely been there for a long time—like a door left open on the unit, which was causing dust and debris to get pulled into our vents and occasionally into the house. That level of attention to detail really stood out.Chris was also incredibly kind and professional throughout the entire visit. If he says he’s going to fix something, you can trust that he’ll get it done.I give him a 10/10. Thank you, Chris, for your hard work and dedication—you truly made a difference and helped get my family back to comfortable living conditions!
We’ve been with John and company since we built our house 10 years ago (they also installed all our HVAC system during construction). We’ve always been really pleased with the service and prices they’ve provided us over the years. Our latest service was today with technician Chris. He did a fantastic job, was very thorough, and explained everything before he started and after he was finished. I would recommend requesting him for your next service appointment!
Chris is knowledgeable, professional and honest. We called when our heat went out on a holiday and he gave us excellent advice. He arrived right on time, took photos to document the problems and after a thorough explanation, went straight to the warehouse for the needed parts. He was back in a flash and quickly repaired the unit. I was so impressed I signed up for a maintenance agreement. Chris and his company have the kind of integrity that is hard to find. Highly recommend!!
