Our new Foundry Heat Pump is now installed and it is a thing of beauty. We had a particularly challenging job--- a 1900s semi with lots of weird wiring and pipes in weird places; a hot water tank that needed to be relocated; a ridiculously narrow access route and a tiny workspace. The 2.5 tonne Fujitsu with electric back up was installed in the perfect place. The installation took place on a cold, rainy day. Travis and crew worked from a tent set up in the back yard. They did a beautiful job, navigating all the challenging technical and practical problems with skill, creativity and tact. They left the property spotless. They took the time to explain everything, to answer all our questions, and to help find workable solutions to the unique aspects of the job. (It helped that we had already read Drew's book which educated us, in plain language, on how heat pumps function.) Their work is beautiful look at and better yet---it works!! It is quieter and more comfortable than the forced air gas furnace it replaced. We are so happy to be off gas and are looking forward to the winter. Thank you Drew, Travis and crew for your outstanding attention to detail, professionalism, and client service.
Foundry has integrity. Seems rare in this hvac industry. Enjoyed the interaction. They were very polite, great customer service, told us when we didn’t need something etc.I would not hesitate to recommend them for your hvac needs.
I cannot say enough good things about Foundry and their crew. We were switching over from our gas furnace to a heat pump. From the initial inquiry through to a very thorough inspection of what would work best in our house right onto the exceptional installation, cleanup and final wave goodbye, it was an excellent experience. Thorough, thoughtful, full attention to details, with a stellar attitude, problem solving can-do attitude-these were the best. I would wholeheartedly endorse them and encourage others to hire them.
Foundry installed two Moovair Heat Pump exterior units and 6 interior ‘heads’ in my house in downtown Toronto in December, 2024, to replace a failed gas furnace. Their price was about 10% higher than a competitor but Drew’s knowledge and detail impressed me. When I queried the higher cost, he explained that their labour expenses were the difference since the crew were all union tradesmen. Enercare, by the way, quoted a laughably greater price for the same heat pump installation and insisted that we needed to replace the gas furnace as a backup!Travis led a crew of four to install the system in three days. They were remarkably efficient; working outside in near zero weather, with the only interior disturbance caused by 2 hours of drilling through walls on the first day. They systematically and elegantly installed the electrical lines and conduits and cleaned up completely; my side pathway was swept clean for the first time in years. I would rate the crew at A+ for expertise in installation and congeniality. I emailed Travis in the week after installation for more clarity in effectively operating the units – the temperature had dropped to -20C – and was amazed that he took the time to reply with a several paragraph elaboration. The system absolutely worked during -20C temperatures. The two units on the third floor rooms (@250 sq. feet of coverage each) provided wonderfully cozy heat throughout the winter, and the two units on the second floor (@350 square feet each) kept the temperature at 20C+ comfortably, including in rooms off hallways. The two units on the first floor (@350 sq. feet each) were less successful at maintaining heat above 68C but this was understandable since they were designed for planned removal of walls that had not taken place and for not yet heated basement. It is now July as I write, so I’ve had the opportunity to use the system for air conditioning in 36C weather. Extremely impressive. I turned on only unit per floor but they cooled the house to 70C in less than two hours.I’ve done a cost comparison of my gas heating costs last winter and this winter’s electricity cost increase with the heat pumps. I deducted from the monthly bills the average cost of summer water heating (gas) and electricity usage to find that over the four winter months (December to March) the net increase in electricity billing of $1,148 was slightly less than the net increase in gas billing of $1,172. The electricity bill was even more impressive, moreover, since the monthly mean temperature (Environment Canada) was much colder (-3.4C on average) in Toronto in the winter of 2025 compared with that of the winter of 2024: -0.6C versus 2.7C in December, -5.4C versus -1.8C in January, and -5C versus -0.2C in February respectively.I really appreciated the professionalism of Foundry, particularly in the seamless integration of the heat pump system with the interior and exterior walls of the house. I note, moreover, that the heat pumps have eliminated the need for a basement furnace and ducting in the basement and walls. This is a huge savings for a renovation in downtown Toronto since it means that I can have a 7’+ basement unincumbered by a furnace and 10” deep ducts running half the width and that I can remove walls without worrying about maintaining heat ducts. Thanks to Foundry Mechanical for making this happen expertly and painlessly.
These guys are awesome! My brother recommended Drew bc they're in an industry Facebook group together.Drew, Travis, Tyler and Trevor were very professional and very knowledgable! Drew and Travis answered all of my questions and concerns prior to installation which made them all the more trustworthy??They communicated with me throughout the entire process of what they were going to do and when and what they needed from me.I am SO Happy with their recommendations for the Fujitsu equipment for both it's performance and stats but especially the price! It ranks just as high or higher then top of the line equipment but for thousands less!We didn't have AC in our house since we moved in 6 years ago and our furnace was from 2008! HUGE UPGRADE! No more Wall units and lower electricity bills and way cooler summers now????Thanks guys, Really appreciate your Hard and Quick work!Highly recommend these guys!
