We just purchased a home that has sun run solar panels on it. After less than a few months, the panels were constantly tripping the circuit breaker. Unfortunately, when I spoke to Sun run over the phone, they said that the service fee for coming out and checking out the solar panels could be $600 if the repairs weren’t covered under warranty.

The servicer arrived at my home, spent about 10 minutes diagnosing the issue, and let me know it was an inverter, and that he would check to see if it was covered under warranty with the manufacturer. He came back to me a few minutes later and let me know that it was covered under warranty and asked if He should proceed. I told him if it was covered under warranty that he should. In total, his visit was about an hour 40 minutes.

Less than a week later, I received a bill in the mail from Sun run for $561. When I contacted their customer service investigating why I was receiving the bill, the agent stated that that is the standard fee to have a truck come out to your house and do repairs on a warranty part or parts. I asked why it wasn’t covered under warranty when I was told by the technician that it was. The agent said that the part was covered under warranty, but not the labor and again reiterated that the 561 was their standard charge to have somebody drive the truck out and make the repairs. I agreed to pay the bill.

At the same time, I contacted my electrician friend to come and look at the panels, the inverter and all of the electronic parts associated with the sun run solar system. I told him how much I was charged for labor, at which time he laughed out loud and said, and I quote, you got screwed to the highest degree. He told me that a standard electrician could have done the same job in less than 40 minutes and that the total cost for his labor would’ve been $180.

UPDATE: I've been in contact with an additional handful of electricians with solar certs about their costs to remove and install an inverter. So far, the highest is from Rio Rancho at $300 and the lowest is $160. Again, Sun Run is a complete scam. If you have work to do, don't have Sun Run do it. They are not an honest company.

Steer clear of this company. They obviously do not have the customer in mind when doing business. Unfortunately, the panels were already on our home when we moved in. For future repairs I will definitely reach out to my electrician friend as opposed to Sun run.

Even if you don’t want to take my word for it, take some time and read the posts on Reddit and Google that will collaborate what I’m saying. DISHONEST COMPANY THAT WILL RIP YOU OFF.

We have the same problem as Michael Z. In his review, System was working for 7 years until April ‘25. Need a new inverter which apparently Sunrun can’t provide. They say they have an inverter in stock, schedule an appointment, then don’t show up. We’ve gotten the runaround for 6 months! Collection calls keep coming. Why the collection company thinks we should pay on a lease when we have no service doesn’t make sense. There’s something fishy going on with that company. Very unprofessional customer service. Absolutely no trust in that company at this point.

U have had sunrun for 7 years know but 2 years the system has not worked no inverter but still they are having me pay at the beginning I was not making enough solar had to pay PNM 120.00 give or take the pay them 120.00 I have 25 panels on my roof I had to invest in my own system because there system was not working properly kept calling over and over kept complaining just ran my 2 wire through there conduit. ANGLE the tech called in and said I hooked up an inverter to there system which don't make any sense not gaining anything if he understood solar he would know that. Don't have warranty with them anymore have to pay 1,200 for a new inverter it's been 2 month know still not repair have been made

SunRun is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. They have solar panels on my roof from the previous owner. I wanted to get service turned on. They never turned on service but they turned on billing, which I never paid. They never get me to a higher level of support than their first level of customer service. They send out techs who say they can't turn it on while the PNM lock is on it. No one knows what is going on and they tell me to go to PNM, which I did. PNM said they need SunRun to confirm the power purchase agreement. Every once in a while I get a call from SunRun collections about my account. And they want me to waste hours of my time doing what I've already done without ever getting me to the point where the system is usable.

My experience with Sunrun has been great up to this point. I had my system installed in 2020 and the crew was very helpful and professional. The install only took half a day and my roof still looked great afterward. They cleaned up after themselves, overall did a great job.

It did take PNM about two months to finally come and turn my system on but ever since my system has been producing all the expected power and my bill has stayed lower compared to what we were paying with PNM.

Very happy with my choice to go with Sunrun.
